How to secure your home while you’re on vacation.

Locksmith-Backed Home Security: Blue Suitcase Illustrating Holiday Safety.

It’s that time of the year with summer holidays just around the corner, it’s time to get excited about your next adventure. With your travel plans organised and your bags packed it’s time to consider how to keep your home safe whilst you’re away.

Putting in a few additional safety measures whilst you’re away is important to avoid disaster whilst you’re trying to enjoy yourself.

Lock away valuables

If you keep valuables in your home try and make sure these items are out of sight of any windows. Any potential intruders will be looking out for easy targets and seeing an expensive product in clear view of a window may make your home more vulnerable – especially if they notice you’re not home.

Keeping valuables in a fitted safe is perfect for smaller items and will make them harder to steal.

Up the security

Installing a security system not only helps bring the price of your insurance down but it also reduces the risk of being burgled. With many options available on the market you’ll find an option for all homes and budgets. Going one step further and installing home cameras also means if anything does happen you have the footage available to send to the police.

Neighbourhood watch

Befriending your neighbours is always handy when it comes to going on holiday. Asking a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property whilst you’re away as well as putting bins out and ensuring mail doesn’t pile up will help make sure your home looks lived in. If you don’t have any trusted neighbours nearby, ask a friend or family member to pop by to keep an eye on things.

Simples – Ensure you lock everything

It might sound obvious but it’s surprising how common it is for homeowners to leave a door unlocked or a window a jar. Planning for a holiday can be stressful and forgetting the basics is all too easy when you’re in a rush to catch a flight. Make a list of things to do before you go and make sure checking doors and windows is your final check.
